Today was a snow day in Cheltenham, so what better way to spend the afternoon in the bakery than making pretty sugar paste roses for a lovely Valentines Day inspired display cake.
This Vanilla Pod Bakery cake started life as a simple sketch and a rough colour palette of red, pink and white. We wanted to create an elegant Valentines Day, Jane Austen style wedding cake.
We started by making pretty white sugarpaste roses, then progressed to the pinky red roses and finally lots and lots of little green leaves.
We let these dry out and then made a few extra sugar paste flowers (carnations) to pad out the display.
I think the overall effect looks quite striking. It is a very simple cake, but very beautiful and intricate at the same time. It would make a gorgeous wedding cake.
